As one of the first projects under EIKON’s on-call contract with Gainesville ISD, we provided professional design services for the renovation of the existing fieldhouse and the addition of a new multi-purpose facility. During the master planning process, the findings, graphics, and ideas spawned the vision for a large indoor multi-purpose facility that would allow students to quickly get out of inclement weather to continue scheduled practice sessions.
Given the juxtaposition and condition of the existing field house locker room building, the renovation scope of work was included. The existing building physically connects to the new multi-purpose facility. The new multi-purpose practice and support spaces comprise 50,000 SF, and the locker room renovation incorporates another 11,000 SF.
EIKON explored different building shell structures and approaches to maximize the amount of building compared to the available budget; this process led to the design of an insulated metal building with a 51-foot roof elevation at its peak. The practice facility is equipped with a 60-yard artificial turf football field, indoor batting cages, a new 5,000 SF weight room, conference rooms, athletic director office, and training room. The enclosed practice field has large overhead doors lining the north and south elevations to maximize cross ventilation within the voluminous space. Anyone in the community can use the facility.
